This is the best ceviche I've ever had and at a great price for the best quality seafood. I need to know where they source their ingredients! If I could give it more than a 5 star I would. The scallop was so plump and fresh. There was no sand and it wasn't fishy at all. I loved the spicy aioli like sauce it came with. The shrimp ceviche was also amazing. Super fresh with the avocado and super delicate flavors. It wasn't heavy and just refreshing. I will definitely be coming back. The octopus taco was super tender and was lightly seasoned as well as the fish taco. You can tell that they definitely focus on the natural taste of the ingredients. The ceviche was definitely better than the tacos but I would still give it a try! The portions were also big so it was worth it! A hidden gem in LA!
Definitely worth the hype and 100% coming back! Couldn't be happier with the overall experience -- amazing service, creativity, quality, taste and presentation of the food were just simply top notch. Some reviewers complained about the food being overpriced. I certainly don't mind paying for quality culinary experience and appreciate the Chef Gilberto Cetina very much for having crafted such incredible menus for all of us to experience. Hats off to you!! The dishes were all cooked to perfection -- flavorful but also comforting. I was completely blown away and ate everything down to the very last bite because no food here should ever go to waste! The flavors were so well thought out and fresh. Also love the casual ambiance. Overall, giving Holbox A++.
There is a reason Holbox has maintained their 5 stars on Yelp all this time!!!! It was me and my partners first time and it won't be the last. We came on a hot summer day and everything was so delicious and refreshing. The ambiance was bustling, but service was quick and on point. Chips, salsa, and drinks were served quickly. All items not pictured because we were too busy eating. I don't think you can go wrong with any of the items on their menu but our standouts were definitely the fish and kanpachi tacos. CHEF'S KISS. Can't wait to be back!! 100/10
Tasty seafood, it is pricey $$$ for the portion sizes. It's located at a food court and is located at the left side of the main entrance. There ya plenty of parking as well. I enjoyed the food however there are other seafood restaurants that are tastier for fraction of the price. They have been awarded for best seafood in LA. The fish tacos were delicious, the Aguas Chile was good however I enjoy my Aguas Chiles with mayo- iykyk this is typically the traditional Mexican seafood and this more upscale with casual food court dinning.
FRESH QUALITY AND TOP INGREDIENTS Came here for lunch and only got to try tacos. Leaving a review to confirm all the good things I heard about this place. You can taste the TLC in the food; I got to try the battered fish, shrimps, and the scallops tacos and it hit so hard. I also remember the tortillas were amazing! Soft and yummy. I can't wait to come back and try other things on the menu, especially the cerviche. I also ordered the lemonade and it was the best lemonade I have ever tasted. It was bubbly and refreshing, so good.
Marvelous modern Mexican mariscos made with mastery! Holbox ("hole-bosh") is a popular Bib Gourmand seafood restaurant in Historic South Central. They are inside Mercado La Paloma, which is a community space with small businesses, offices for local non-profits, event/venue space for rent, and a food hall. On-site parking was limited, but the adjourning lot west of the building was open and had lots of spots available. They are close to the food hall entrance, but we saw the line first before we saw their business sign! Thankfully it moved at a steady pace, and we were at the register before we knew it. On the menu they have shellfish, ceviches, tostadas, tacos, side, desserts, some entrees, aguachiles, and seafood cocktails. You can also get their fish of the day or other specials. After placing your order, they'll give you a number stand and you'll have to find an open table nearby. A staff member brought out complimentary chips and salsa, which I munched on while I waited. The food arrived shortly. We enjoyed everything! Tostada de Kanpachi + Santa Barbara Uni - not cheap, but certainly a premium! Every bite was flavorful, with different contrasting textures and flavors Smoked Kanpachi Taco - so fancy you need a knife! Had a very Applewood-like aroma to it, with a spice that lingers on your tongue Baja Fish Taco - perfectly battered rockfish with the right crispiness Baja Shrimp Taco - goes well with the crema, mayo, salsa roja, cabbage, and pico. Not the most outstanding one but you can't go wrong with it Taco de Pulpo en su Tinta - I don't know how they prepare the octopus so that it has this amazing tender texture, but they did Go!
Well worth the wait! Once the line begins to move, it goes by pretty quickly. We got a seat at the counter and basically over ordered! Just over order, that truly is my best recommendation. Try it all There was literally nothing I ordered that I regretted. Ceviche mixto , kanpachi taco, Baja fish taco, pescado Al carbon and their lemonade. Just overall a beautiful meal with excellent and fast service! We can't wait to come back
Simply fantastic and worthy of every accolade. The seafood is incredibly fresh, they offer great chips and salsas, and everything has so much attention to detail. Tostada de kanpachi and uni - one of my favorite dishes! Fresh fish and a generous helping of uni over a crispy tostada made my eyes roll back in my head! Scallop aguachile - my favorite dish! The scallops were large and succulent and swimming in a bright aguachile with lots of lime and avocado. Wish I didn't have to share lol Ceviche mixto - also delicious, a large plate brimming with octopus, shrimp and grouper bass with the perfect lime Tang Baja fish taco - also very good with a crisp batter and cabbage and white sauce but the fresh seafood shines the brightest Sopa de mariscos- very good as well but I wish there was more of the nice rich broth. Great amount of cooked seafood Filete de carbon- the grilled Bronzino fillet with fantastic cilantro rice and black beans and homemade corn tortillas. Yum but slightly dry Smoked kanpachi taco - good but a little too smoky for my taste Can't wait to come back and try everything else!
Really fresh and interesting Mexican seafood in an open market "food court" type of setting. You order at the stand, get a number and food is brought to your table. Not what you expect for a Michelin recognized restaurant. The ceviche was the best thing we ordered. We also ordered the whole fish but hard to enjoy with the small table we had, with too many plates. Fun experience and worth a visit if you're craving Mexican flavors but open to non-traditional dishes.
I hesitated coming here. Don't hesitate. It's worth a visit. Food is fresh, worth the money and worth the small wait. Bluefin tuna ceviche was fresh and good sized. Octopus tasted great. Not a bit fan of the beans and rice that came with it but I'm here for the seafood. Uni was great as well . Beautiful presentation and well worth the price for what you get
